What should I ask?
Use the kind of question a customer would type, not your business name first. Try a few variations:
- —"Who's a good [your service] in [your town]?"
- —"Can you recommend a [your service] near [nearby area] who does [a specific thing]?"
- —"What do you know about [your business name]?"
Where should I check?
Check ChatGPT, Gemini and a normal Google search where the AI overview appears at the top. Use a private browser window so your own history doesn't skew Google, and repeat the check every couple of months so you can see change over time.
Not sure where your site stands? Run the free site audit for a quick check of speed, search and accessibility.
What do the results tell me?
- —You're named with correct details: your basics are working. Keep reviews and content fresh.
- —You're named but details are wrong: your information doesn't match across the web. Fix your site, Google profile and directory listings so they say the same thing.
- —You're not named at all: the tools can't find enough clear information about you. Start with your homepage wording, an FAQ and your Google Business Profile.
What do I do next?
Note who is being named instead of you and look at what their websites say that yours doesn't. Usually it's clearer wording about the service and area, answers to common questions, and more recent reviews.
